A Credit Officer in an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), often within microfinance, assesses loan applicants from low-income groups, forms self-help groups, evaluates financial needs/risks, sanctions loans (especially for income-generating activities), manages loan portfolios, and ensures repayment, requiring strong field skills, analytical ability, and good communication to maintain financial stability for both the NGO and its beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Identification: Finding and selecting eligible, genuinely needy individuals/families in villages.
- Group Formation: Organizing small groups (5-10+) with similar professions to build trust and discipline (Samiti).
- Creditworthiness Assessment: Verifying income, expenses, assets, and credit potential.
- Loan Processing: Preparing loan documents, calculating risk, and setting terms.
- Portfolio Management: Monitoring loan repayments, managing defaults, and providing financial counseling.
- Field Work: Working extensively in rural areas with a strong field presence.
Required Skills & Profile:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
- Experience: Previous experience in microfinance or similar lending roles.
